The Family International's Statement of Faith enunciates our belief in what is termed by scholars of religion as "bridal theology." We believe it is evident throughout the Bible that the relationship between God and His people and Christ and His Church is likened to that of a bridegroom to his bride. The Scripture tells us, "For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name" (Isaiah 54:5). The marital metaphor is frequently used to describe the intimate spiritual communion between Christ and His people, and the fervency of the loving union of heart, mind, and spirit that accompanies this relationship.
In early 1996, The Family International published a series of internal articles for its adult membership expounding on this theology, collectively known as the "Loving Jesus Revelation". Although the erotic language included in sections of publications pertaining to this revelation could be deemed controversial and sexually explicit in parts, it is our understanding of the Scriptures that sexuality, when practiced as God ordained between consenting adults, is a pure, natural, and beautiful creation of God. As such, intimate language of passion between the Creator of sexual intimacy and His adult worshippers is considered by members of the Family International as an expression of devotion to our Lord and Savior.
These articles are published for adult membership only and are not to be read or practiced in the presence of minors. Family members are not required to practice the Loving Jesus revelation, as it is not a fundamental Family doctrine, but is rather a matter of personal choice.
