The story has been told of many years ago
About Sir William Gladstone and the boy that he came to know
William Gladstone was a statesman of the English government
And the lad was just a newsboy that by chance he'd met

Gladstone came to speak to all the great men of the land,
An important message for them he was holding in his hand,
But as he came to parliament he learned in shocked surprise,
His newsboy friend was injured and called for him before he died

Chorus One:
Get me in, Mr. Gladstone, get me in,
I really want to go to heaven, get me in.
Sir I know you know the way and I may only have today
Get me in, Mr. Gladstone, get me in

The speech he was to give that day could change his country's fate
But to help the dying newsboy the speech would have to wait
"No, no", cried his secretary, "This you cannot do,
The welfare of this country may well depend on you!"
Gladstone stopped and looked to heaven, which way should he turn?
But as he stood deciding, he heard again these words

[Repeat Chorus]

So off he raced to find the lad and knelt down by his side,
And they softly prayed to Jesus to save him as he died.
Now history may forget the choice that Gladstone made that day
But God will not forget the newsboy's soul he stopped to save

Chorus Two:
He got me in, Mr. Gladstone got me in
He led me to the gate of Heaven, now I'm in,
'Cause he showed me how to pray to Jesus and be saved
He got me in, Mr. Gladstone got me in
He got me in, Mr. Gladstone got me in

He got him in, Mr. Gladstone got him in
