A distinction is made between "Baby Care" and general "Child Care," because the training and practical experience required to become proficient changes significantly with the age of the child. We are considering "babies" to be newborns to 18 months, and "children" to be 18 months to 12 years old.

1. BABY CARE (BC)
EDU BC-00 Baby Care (Practical Experience)
Course Description: Students must have 240 hours of experience in Baby Care to obtain credit.

EDU BC-01 Pregnancy, Delivery and Mother Care
Course Description: This is an extensive course in understanding pregnancy and birth, plus prenatal and postnatal mother care, including the need for proper nutrition and physical care of the mother to assure a good delivery and healthy baby. Also an excellent course for those interested in learning to assist at a birth.

EDU BC-02 Newborn Care
Course Description: This is a detailed course covering most aspects of caring for newborn babies.

EDU BC-03 Baby Care: Feeding and Nutrition
Course Description: This course provides a detailed guide to baby feeding, including the importance of breast-feeding, as well as bottle feeding procedures.

EDU BC-04 Baby Care: Exercising Baby
Course Description: This course offers instruction in muscle development and coordination, and includes safe, strengthening exercises for babies from birth to 15 months.

EDU BC-05 Baby Care: Learning and Play
Course Description: This course covers various early learning techniques that stimulate intellectual development in babies from birth to 18 months; guidelines on how to select safe and suitable toys for baby; and skill development games to play with baby. Through the course an emphasis is placed on developing baby safety awareness.

EDU BC-06 Baby Care: Coping with Teething and Potty Training
Course Description: This course covers how to effectively help a child through teething trials, and gives hints for successful potty training.

2. CHILD CARE (CC)
EDU CC-00 Child Care (Practical Experience)
Course Description: Students must have 240 hours of experience as a child-care assistant to obtain credit. Up to 120 hours of baby-care experience may be accepted towards the 240 hours of required practical experience. 120 hours spent working with and teaching toddlers and preschool children are required if the student is applying for an "Early Childhood Education" Certificate.

EDU CC-01 The Challenge of Child Care
Course Description: This course familiarizes the student with the Christian goals they should strive for, and challenges that arise as they learn to properly care for and train children.

EDU CC-02 Communicating with Children
Course Description: This course is designed to help students, parents and child-care assistants improve their ability to communicate effectively with children.

EDU CC-03 Fostering Self-Esteem
Course Description: In this course the student studies ways to encourage self-esteem in children.

EDU CC-04 Health and Hygiene in Child Care
Course Description: This course covers many of the principle health and hygiene concerns involved in full-time care of children. The development of good personal health habits in those who work with children is greatly emphasized throughout this course. The course also includes nutritional information as well as practical tips on how to help children develop healthful eating habits.

EDU CC-05 Child Supervision, Safety and First Aid
Course Description: This course provides students with practical suggestions and ideas on how to supervise and care for children in various play and learning situations, maintaining high safety standards without sacrificing creative play and fun. The student will also study basic first aid procedures.

EDU CC-06 Training and Discipline
Course Description: An essential course in child discipline and development, emphasizing love and understanding as the foundation of effective discipline. Many positive and constructive disciplinary alternatives to traditional forms of correction are offered.

EDU CC-07 Caring for Toddlers and Preschoolers
Course Description: This is a valuable course for students wishing to specialize in learning to care for children in this challenging age group.

EDU CC-08 Preschool Learning Activities
Course Description: This is an extensive course for students wishing to specialize in early childhood learning activities. The course also includes a section on reading readiness and helping children learn to read at an early age.

EDU CC-09 Character Development in Preschool Children
Course Description: This course helps students apply Christian principles and moral training to build character and a solid spiritual foundation in the lives of children.

EDU CC-10 Understanding Younger Children (approximately 4-8 years old)
Course Description: This course helps students better understand the physical, emotional and spiritual character of younger children, and explores various constructive ways to help children overcome difficulties and face life's challenges.

EDU CC-11 Understanding Older Children (approximately 9-11 years old)
Course Description: This course is designed to help understand the special needs of older children; find ways to encourage their decision-making abilities, form good personal habits, develop study skills, make positive social adjustments and enter adolescence with confidence.

EDU CC-12 Teaching Teamwork Skills to Children
Course Description: In this course the student learns how to help children of all ages develop positive attitudes, confidence and teamwork skills, and become active contributors in maintaining and improving their own environment. Numerous age-appropriate chores are presented in fun and challenging ways.

EDU YT-00 Youth Counseling (Practical Experience)
Course Description: A student must have 240 hours of experience as a preteen or teen care giver and counselor to obtain credit.

EDU YT-01 Youth Counseling: An Introductory Course
Course Description: An introductory course examining the many special needs, aspirations and challenges involved in working with members of these age groups. A special emphasis is placed on working with young people who are aspiring to Christian service.

EDU YT-02 Youth Counseling: How to Communicate with Preteens and Teens
Course Description: This is a practical course in how to effectively and respectfully communicate with preteens and teenagers. Advice from many sources and various experts are studied and opportunity is given to apply these proven approaches in real life situations. Effective and loving communication is a skill everyone working with young people needs to master in order to transmit today's lessons to tomorrow's leaders.

EDU YT-03 Youth Counseling: Inspirational Teaching Techniques
Course Description: Learning should be fun and interesting for any age and for any group-but preteens and teens especially appreciate stimulating and dynamic learning opportunities. Sometimes all that is needed to trigger a quality learning experience is a new, unfamiliar, dramatic, creative or innovative approach to the way the subject is presented. In this course you will discover easy and practical ways to make group learning sessions fun, full of interest, and encourage active participation by all.

EDU YT-04 Youth Counseling: How to Administer Constructive Correction
Course Description: The social and emotional adjustments faced by maturing adolescents require insight, love, consideration and a positive response on the part of an overseer or teacher. One very important and necessary part of working with maturing preteens and teens is learning how to maintain disciplinary standards in love. This course explores many approaches to correcting unacceptable conduct or attitudes among members of this age group.

EDU YT-05 Youth Counseling: Sex Education-A Godly Contemporary Approach
Course Description: This course offers Godly counsel and advice to teens regarding their sexual development, and helps answer their many questions. The student also studies how to counsel his/her peers in constructive ways.

EDU YT-06 Youth Counseling: Teen Problems
Course Description: This is a pow-wow discussion course. Students are to list the main problem areas that teens they encounter have, and research and prepare an essay presentation that discusses one such problem area. In their essay presentation, they need to clearly define the problem, showing the extent of the problem in society, outline the legal, social and political action being taken in the country to cope with the problem, then suggest Family publication articles, Letters to read, witnessing quotes to claim or use to help people they may encounter who have these problems. Students should research at least five problem areas, and do their essay presentation on one area. Topics to consider might include: Alcoholism, drug use, teen pregnancy, abortion, violence, demonic music, bullying, fear, suicide, stealing, rape, gangs, violent crime, prostitution, trouble at home, venereal diseases, etc.

Course Description: The student must complete 240 hours of teaching or assistant teaching experience.

EDU TT-01 Education Foundation I: Practical Principles of Teaching
Course Description: In this course the student studies a Godly philosophy and practical principles for teaching.

EDU TT-02 Education Foundation II: Teaching in the Home
Course Description: This course provides "school-in-the-home" teachers with a multitude of practical "how to" ideas and suggestions on ways to make maximum use of home and community resources to create and organize stimulating learning opportunities, programs and environments for children who study at home.

EDU TT-03 The Art of Enthusiastic Teaching
Course Description: The student studies some of the secrets of enthusiastic teaching and explores proven effective ways to capture children's interest and motivate their desire to learn.

EDU TT-04 Communication Skills for Educators
Course Description: Students study ways to become more effective in their communications with children.

EDU TT-05 Story-Telling for Teachers
Course Description: The student practices the art of telling stories in a manner that captivates an audience of children. To earn credit for this course, each student must have at least five successful story-telling sessions of ten minutes or more each, with a child or group of children.

EDU TT-06 Ways to Motivate Children
Course Description: The purpose of this course is to help young, aspiring teachers learn the art of channeling a child's energy into constructive action, and learn to more effectively motivate and manage groups of children so their learning experience will be positive, constructive and individually rewarding.

EDU TT-07 Control in the Classroom
Course Description: Students study how to maintain a productive learning environment while effectively handling disruptive behavior.

EDU TT-08 Curriculum Development
Course Description: Students study how to evaluate, apply and adapt curriculum materials to the specific needs of a class. Various secondary aspects of educational planning are covered, including how to organize field trips and excursions, make the best use of community resources and special local facilities, arrange for resource people such as skilled professionals, community leaders, performers, musicians, artists, health and safety people to visit the classroom.

Course Description: A practical course in organizing classroom resources and records.

EDU TT-10 Community and Parent-Teacher Relations
Course Description: A practical course to assist teachers in maintaining good relationships and open communications with parents and other members of the community.

EDU TT-11 Curriculum and Instruction: Christian Foundations
Course Description: This course helps further a Christian teacher's skill in passing on Christian principles to the next generation, including Bible familiarization, Scripture memorization, witnessing, and how to present object lessons and spiritual principles.

EDU TT-12 Curriculum and Instruction: Teaching Bible Stories to Younger Children
Course Description: Students learn the "how-to's" of teaching Bible stories to younger children-how to involve the children, how to hold their interest, and different projects to use to reinforce the lessons being taught. Students must have at least three experiences in leading children's groups in a Bible story.

EDU TT-13 Curriculum and Instruction: Teaching Children to Witness
Course Description: A practical course in teaching children how to share their faith with others. To earn credit, students are required to spend eight hours witnessing with children.

Course Description: A step-by-step course in the techniques of teaching reading.

EDU TT-15 Curriculum and Instruction: Language Arts
Course Description: This is an overview course in teaching language arts, which includes how to teach basic printing and handwriting skills, spelling, pronunciation, grammar and composition.

EDU TT-16 Curriculum and Instruction: Mathematics
Course Description: This course explores various approaches to teaching mathematics to young children, including Glenn Doman's highly acclaimed "Teach Your Baby Maths" program.

EDU TT-17 Curriculum and Instruction: General Science and Biology
Course Description: In this course, teachers of elementary-age children will discover many practical ways to make physical and life sciences fascinating and fun studies for children.

Course Description: This course contains practical ideas and guidelines for teaching social studies and current events to children.

EDU TT-19 Curriculum and Instruction: A Second Language
This course introduces students to a simple method of teaching a second language to children. Students are encouraged to use suitable language-teaching books and tapes.

EDU TT-20 Curriculum and Instruction: Arts and Crafts
Course Description: This course not only teaches basic drawing and craft techniques, but also provides a multitude of arts-and-crafts activities for children.

EDU TT-21 Curriculum and Instruction: Music
Course Description: This course covers the fundamentals of teaching children to read music, rhythm, playing an instrument, singing and general music appreciation.

EDU TT-22 Curriculum and Instruction: Drama and Performing Arts
Course Description: This is a course in how to plan and execute simple stage performances, leading up to larger public presentations. The course includes creative dance, pantomime, skits and puppetry. To earn credit, students must plan and help children to perform two stage performances, either in the home or in public.

EDU TT-23 Curriculum and Instruction: Physical Education
Course Description: This course provides instruction and practical experience in organizing and directing recreational programs, including: general exercising, swimming instruction, group and individual games.
