PRAYER LIST 30   DO March 1996

Copyright March 1996, The Family, Zurich, Switzerland

"Thou hast a mighty arm; strong is Thy hand, and high is Thy right hand. Justice and judgment are the habitation of Thy throne; mercy and truth shall go before Thy face" (Psalm 89:13,14).

Please use this list with PL 25, the latest long-term list. Thank you!

For 14 years and up. Although JETTs are not permitted to read the Prayer Lists on their own, you parents and teachers may read it with them during Word time, or share prayer requests with them when having prayer vigil. Selected prayer requests, answers to prayer and testimonies of answered prayer may be read to younger age groups as well, at your discretion. Please be prayerful and use wisdom in what you share with JETTs and children. Be sure to present prayer requests in a positive spirit, explain things and answer any questions they may have.

ANSWERED PRAYERS
Some of the answered prayers listed below were not mentioned as prayer requests in past Prayer Lists, but were prayed for locally. We include them here for your encouragement, and to glorify the Lord for His marvelous faithfulness in answering prayer!

Asia:

1. Angel (PL 28:296): Results from a medical test show no sign of breast cancer, and she is no longer experiencing pain on her left side!

2. Japheth (of Joan) (PL 24:100): Healed of painful recurring boils.

3. James (of Charity) (PL 28:293): Gaining strength daily, both physically and spiritually.

4. Jewel (of Josiah): "The results from Jewel's brain scan show that the tumor which was removed three years ago is not in a stage of re-growth. The results showed no signs of any tumors! The Lord has also healed her from recurring fainting spells which caused a head injury. The Lord gave a remarkable promise from Isa.40:28-31 (which contains specific reassurance and the word `faint' four times) and she has not had any more problems!"

5. Reema Mercy (baby of a close friend) (PL 28:62): Her convulsions have stopped completely. She is able to suck and swallow and doesn't need to be fed through a tube. It's a real testimony of the Lord's healing, as the doctors were not able to do much.

6. Mary Magdalene (baby of a close friend) (PL 28:63): The operation on her spinal cord was successful and she has been healing very quickly.

7. India (PL 28:270): Recording of "Fantastic Friends" in Hindi completed.

8. Andy, Joy and Abigail (PL 29:276): The Lord answered prayer for their preparations and provision, and their team is now in China.

9. The Family's relief efforts in Thailand during the recent severe flooding were fruitful and well-received (PL 29:270).

North America:

10. Fe (of Gideon) (PL 29:52): Doing much better, thanks to your prayers! The leukemia has gone into remission, and she's not receiving any chemotherapy at this time. The doctors have recommended that she get a bone marrow transplant to prevent the leukemia recurring, which she feels led to go ahead with. They found two donors for her in a very short time, which is a total miracle, as it's one chance in 6,000 to find somebody with compatible bone marrow.

11. Samuel (9, of Andrew and Lily): Samuel was in critical condition, as a cancerous tumor had developed in his neck and was applying serious pressure on his windpipe. However, the tumor miraculously dissolved! His parents report: "Since the prayer request for Samuel came out in Prayer List 29, he has been feeling fine! He is pretty much back to normal in all of his activities. The doctors say he is doing great. The Lord is opening up a ministry of comfort to the many other children and parents we meet. The Lord has been so good to us and is working everything out for our good!"

12. David (of Cherish) (PL 27:253): No longer experiencing any chest pain.

13. Serena (of Peter) (PL 27:267): "I am recovering well from my recent surgery (to remove a kidney), and am now able to do more than just walking for exercise. I still have moments when I feel discomfort in my neck and side, but it is nothing short of a miracle how quickly I have recovered. I am eternally grateful for everyone's prayers."

14. Mercy Trust: Several tests were run on a lump in her breast that the doctors were concerned might be cancerous, and the results were negative!

15. Ruthie (teen, of Phil and Esther): "Ruthie just had major surgery on her ear, and it has been miracle after miracle of how the Lord supplied the means for the operation and raised up really sweet doctors who even helped do some of the provisioning for us! She is recuperating well and we are praying that her hearing will be restored, as she was going deaf. The Lord gave us the promise, `And thine ear shall hear a word behind thee.'"

16. Rose Secretary: No problems with arthritis despite cold weather.

17. Mexico: Recently several TV shows were broadcast which aggressively attacked the Family in an attempt to incite the government against us. The Family in Mexico City went on the attack with demonstrations and picketing, and the media storm was overturned in our favor, thank the Lord! The Family has since had favorable contacts with government officials responsible to oversee NRMs in the country, and our enemies' attacks seem to have somewhat abated.

South America:

18. Ana Lua (of Paulo) (PL 29:143): She was recently diagnosed with melanoma (skin cancer), but after several tests, the doctors said that the disease had not spread to any other major organs. They removed the lymph glands under her arms and only one of them was affected by the disease, which is a great miracle, considering the seriousness of the diagnosis and the estimated length of time she had the disease without knowing about it (over three years).

19. Gabriel (9, of Juan and Gloria) (PL 28:125): Less asthma problems.

20. Marie (of Andrew) (PL 26:174): Gave birth to a full-term and healthy baby boy, despite complications and premature contractions in her first months of pregnancy.

21. Rosa (of Nehemias) (TS) (PL 24:160): Healed of problems with nervous system.

22. Anna (of James) (PL 28:116): As soon as a prayer request was sent in, the pain in her arm and leg caused by high blood pressure subsided. She has since regained much of her former strength.

23. Ana (of Gabriel) (PL 28:123): Has not had asthma attacks nor needed to use her respirator since sending in her prayer request!

24. Maria Clara (of Mateo and Brunilda) (PL 28:92): Healed from urinary infections.

25. Christian (4, of Primavera) (PL 28:98): The Lord completely healed him and he has not had any coughs or colds.

26. J. (friend and supporter) (PL 28:132): He has already been released from the hospital and the doctors are amazed at his recovery from a cerebral hemorrhage. He talks, sits up, eats, is gaining weight and seems to have suffered no memory loss!

Europe and Africa:

27. David (3, of Paul and Lily): Miraculously healed of cancer! (See testimony on page 13.)

28. Stephen (of Peace) (PL 28:187,189): "Since the prayer request for healing of my back was published, it is much better! Also, little David's (our two-year-old) frequent nose bleeds have completely stopped since we sent in his prayer request. Thank you so much, dear Family, for praying for us!"

29. Samuel, Spring and Lily (PL 28:211): "Our friend D. Francisco [originally witnessed to by Dad and Mama], who was sick with cancer of the colon went to be with the Lord and is healed forever! He surely met Dad again over There!"

30. Sara (of Jonathan) (PL 28:175): "I am feeling much stronger now and am experiencing less pain from the cysts on my ovaries. Thank you, my precious Family who have prayed for me!"

31. John and Beth (PL 28:215): "We received a letter from Kwek, a friend who had requested prayer for his mother's knees. He said his mother is feeling much better now and is responding well to treatment and no longer needs an operation!"

32. A Home in Spain received written authorization to home school their children (PL 29:181). Because they applied as members of the Family, hopefully this will set a precedent for other Homes in the country as well.

33. Albania: The Lord gave the local Home a victory in a court case brought against them by a crooked landlord who was trying to swindle them.

Pacific:

34. Marcus (of Christina) (PL 29:236): "Thank you for praying for Marcus [who was diagnosed as having cancer and advised to take chemotherapy]. The doctor concluded all he needs is just a once-a-month check up for six months! TTL! So it seems that his situation with cancer is not so serious anymore!"

35. Matthew and Claire (PL 28:283): Legal situation miraculously resolved.

36. Jonathan and Sarah (PL 29:226): The Lord supplied the needed funds for our pioneer team.

37. David and Freya (PL 29:230): "All five adult members of the Home have received their official license to do volunteer work from the prefectural government! This is the first time in history that any branch of the government of Japan has issued volunteer licenses to citizens. Altogether there are 1,200 volunteers licensed in this program."

TESTIMONIES OF ANSWERED PRAYER!

A Glorious Graduation!
From Nina, Peru:
(Nina was mated to Pablo del Campo, who passed away last year, as reported in Prayer List 27. The following is from a newsletter she put together after his graduation:)
On August 11th, 8:30 p.m., our beloved Pablo left his earthly cocoon and, like a butterfly, is forever free from the weights and cares of this life!
First of all, I'd like to thank you all for your prayers for him! The Lord surely answered every one of them, although perhaps not all of them the way we expected. I, too, was hoping for a miraculous healing here on Earth and had quite a few reasons why I thought the Lord ought to do it that way. But I had to yield to the fact that the Lord knows all those reasons plus a lot more factors that I don't know of, or that I can't see or understand now. We are, comparatively speaking, still stuck in a valley, while the Lord sees from high above the mountain peaks, overlooking all the land in every direction.
During Pablo's six-week long illness (his "final exam"), the Lord helped us and gave us the grace day by day, step by step, thanks to your prayers. There were many precious and even happy moments besides all the trials and tests. We experienced the precious love and care of our dear brethren as never before, and also received many beautiful prophecies that gave us comfort and strength to carry on. In His wisdom He revealed His plan to us little by little, waiting until we were ready to accept His will. Some days before Pablo's Homegoing, the Lord said in prophecy: "Are ye not worth more than many sparrows? And not one of them falls, unless your Father knows. Believe in Me! Believe that I am the Author and Finisher of your days. Stand back and see Me finish this work. I started this work and I will finish it. Lift up your eyes, for your redemption is nigh! Yet a little while and you shall see Me. Don't tribulate yourselves, but be joyful. Do you feel sad when a mother is in labor?... You know that afterwards there will be a victory. This is a labor and not an agony. Also: For the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed. For there await [in the] halls of Heaven, wonders such as you have never even dreamed of...."
A few days before his departure, Pablo sent for our friends Alfredo, Gloria, and Bernardo, to tell them good bye. When they came into the room crying, he told them: "Don't cry! Be happy for me! This is my graduation!" And he went on witnessing to them about our way of looking at death and about Heaven. He even told them, "At my funeral I want you to have a party! Sing, dance and have a good time, because I'll be so happy then!" He said the same to quite a few other relatives that came to see him later on. God bless him.
We had a beautiful little ceremony at our house, the day after his graduation. Quite a few of his relatives came, as well as some of his close friends from the Family who lived in the area. The musicians sang and played beautiful songs about Heaven and some of Pablo's favorites. Miguel and Fran shared quotes and anecdotes about death from the
Good Thots. Then we had a round of appreciation for Pablo, where several people shared impressions and stories about Pablo--many of them funny ones. It was a moving, precious time. We laughed and cried at the same time. Most of us felt Pablo's presence very strongly. I could just imagine Pablo singing these songs even more wholeheartedly than while he was with us, as now he could fully comprehend them.
While talking to and comforting his brother, this thought came to me: Imagine you got an invitation from a great king to come and live in his palace and to receive specialized training for a very important ministry. You'd be given everything you always wanted, and besides that, you'd have the king's promise that your loved ones will come and join you soon. Wouldn't you accept the invitation?
I really love you all very much! I'm happier than ever to be part of this beautiful Family, where we can count on so much support and help in times of greatest need. Thank the Lord!
If any of you have a special encounter with Pablo (as several here have had), please tell me about it. Thank you, and God bless and keep you!
(From a letter from Nina to Mama and Peter:) Although Prayer List 27 mentions our "children," Pablo and I actually never had any together. (It was sweet, though, that it mentioned children, as both of us really love them and love to be with them. Many children really miss Pablo as he was so funny and lively and always showed them lots of love.) But the Lord did do something extra special in this regard: Last New Year, Pablo's prayer was that we could have a child. Well, I didn't get pregnant, but a dear single sister (with five children) with whom he shared regularly, did! And the Lord put it in her heart to give the baby to us (now me!!). We found out about her pregnancy on the same day we got the results of Pablo's tests (that he had tumors in his brain and lungs). Isn't the Lord wonderful? It was an encouragement to us during the trying time that followed, and now I'll have Pablo's child to cherish. Thank the Lord!

Healed of Cancer!
From Paul and Lily (TS), Norway:
Last summer, David, our 3-year-old son, slipped and fell on the edge of the bathtub. He didn't seriously hurt himself, as Lily was helping him, but a bump came up on one side of his groin. The next day we took him to the doctor to have it checked. The doctor didn't think that it was anything serious, speculating the bump was a muscular reaction that would probably take a while to go down. We of course committed David to prayer and asked for the Lord's healing.
The bump remained through the summer. In September we noticed a second bump coming up. We took him back to the doctor, who expressed his concern that perhaps David had a hernia, and made us an appointment with a specialist. We once again committed it to the Lord and prayed that the Lord would show us what was wrong. David was in no discomfort and was otherwise very normal and healthy.
In November I (Paul) took David to the hospital for a check-up. They did an ultrasound scan of the bump and it showed that there was a definite tumor. The doctor called in another specialist to look at the ultrasound pictures and it was recommended that David undergo a more thorough examination and several tests. The whole time everyone was very sweet, helpful and loving, carefully explaining to me and to David everything that was going to happen. We were so thankful to the Lord, as we had desperately prayed that the people involved would be guided by the Lord.
After all the tests were finished, the doctor gave us the news that it was definitely a tumor, but they would have to take a cell sample to find out if it was cancerous or not. We spent the weekend desperately praying that the Lord would have His way and that David would be healed.
When they performed the biopsy the following week, they immediately saw that the tumor was cancerous, and removed it. At the same time they took a bone marrow sample and a sample of the spinal fluid. When all the results came back it was determined that David had a form of lymph cancer called Hodgkins. We just couldn't believe David had cancer! It's still hard to come to grips with. But we had to believe God's Word, that no matter what the situation and the tempest around us, we have His promises.
After our talk with the doctor we had desperate prayer that the cancer would be a very mild type and that the treatment would be the easiest possible. When the final results came in, it was found that the type of cancer he had was actually very rare in children under five and that it was what was called a "kind" cancer, meaning it was not an aggressive cancer but one that responded well to light treatment! That was an answer to our prayers. The cancer had not spread throughout his body, and it was all located in the groin muscle.
Knowing the Lord as we do, we knew we couldn't depend on anything but the Lord for healing. But Norwegian law is quite strict on these matters, so we were constrained more or less to "play ball" their way and proceed with chemotherapy for David.
Chemotherapy is a harsh and horrible treatment, so we are desperately praying that this "poison" they will use to kill the cancer will not affect David or the good cells in his body. We received the verse, "And these signs shall follow them that believe ... if they shall drink any deadly thing it shall not harm them." What a verse to claim! We were so excited and comforted by the Lord's promises. David is scheduled to have a total of eight treatments, one every two weeks. We have testified to the doctors and nurses that we believe that the Lord will heal David and keep him from the side effects. After the fourth treatment they are going to give him another examination and we have claimed by faith that those tests will all prove negative.
(A month later:) We want to share the great victories of what the Lord is doing for us and David. We have had united desperate prayer that the Lord would keep him from the side effects of this treatment. The Lord answered our prayers above and beyond all we could hope. Normally with chemotherapy the patient gets extremely nauseous and loses all appetite. David, however, has only been slightly sick to his stomach and has been able to eat fairly normally, considering what he is being given, so much so that the doctors have been amazed. After only
three treatments, he responded so well that they wanted to run some tests to see how much progress was being made. To their surprise and to our joy they found that the cancer is gone. Hallelujah! What a testimony! The doctors are now considering reducing David's treatments. We know the Lord is working in their hearts, as our prayer has been that they will decide to stop the treatments altogether as soon as possible. In any case, they are giving him the absolute minimum of treatment, which is also an answer to our prayers!
The Lord has been doing victories in our lives as well. We know from His Word that God does not allow us or our little ones to be afflicted needlessly or without good reason. So we have been seeking those reasons and He has been faithful to give us answers.
Having been on our own for many years now, we realize we have become very hard and unloving in many ways. Although we believed we were trying to stay faithful to the Lord and His Word and helping others, we have discovered that actually, like a cancer, we have slowly allowed worldly influences to seep in and grow in our hearts. Like cancer, selfishness and unloving attitudes start as just one little cell; one act of selfishness, one unloving act. And when met by no resistance, it grows. It divides and multiplies very fast until there is a huge malignant tumor. Selfishness is the same. Unloving attitudes are the same. The result in the end is that it affects the rest of the body, taking over vital organs until the body can no longer fight, and dies. So to be very honest, our son's sickness was a graphic demonstration of where we were heading spiritually. We want to make a fresh start and pray that the Lord and those we have offended or hurt will forgive us.
One testimony of how the Lord is using this affliction for good is that the last time we were in the hospital, there was a little 12-year-old girl there who has a heart disorder. She has been in and out of the hospital for years as she is very susceptible to illness. She is such a sweet little sheep, and during our stay there we had a chance to witness to her and she asked Jesus into her heart. I also had a chance to witness to both her father and mother, who both were very sweet and broken and receptive. When we left the hospital to return home, the girl cried and cried. We've since kept in touch with them and sent her a video and some feeding lit, and have invited them to visit us.
The nurses in the hospital have been so sweet, and one in particular has just fallen in love with David. When I shared with her how we believed that God had healed David and that the cancer was gone, she threw her arms around me and cried for joy with us. The Lord is bringing us in touch with a lot of families that are going through some very hard and uncertain times, and the Lord wants us to comfort them with the comfort He has given us. So we want to do something more at this children's hospital, and we are praying about how the Lord can use us there. We love you all and are so thankful for your prayers.

From Daniella, Thailand:
A German friend of ours whose marriage has been childless asked us to pray for her. Two weeks later, she was pregnant! Seven weeks later she found out she was pregnant with twins! This year there have been five childless couples that have asked us for prayer and are now expecting babies--two of them expecting twins! Thank the Lord!

From Jose, David and Faith, Brazil:
One of our friends was in a meeting and asked to be healed from a tumor he had on his leg. Before the meeting ended he felt like his leg was a bit wet, and when he went to the bathroom he discovered that the tumor had burst. The next day he went to the doctor, who told him that the job he was going to do had already been done! He was going to remove the tumor, but the place where the tumor was had disappeared without a trace!

From Tabitha F, Brazil:
A close friend had a stroke which has confined him to bed for five months now. We've visited him frequently and are always praying for him. He's also been on the national and worldwide Prayer Lists (PL 28:132). The Lord has answered our prayers wonderfully! Now our friend is talking, sitting up, remembering things clearly and was released from the hospital just last week to begin his rehabilitation! Such a rapid recovery from such a serious stroke could only be a miracle in answer to prayer.

From Esteban, Ruth and Joy, Colombia:
Miguel started having pains in his stomach, and as they grew stronger, he decided to go to the clinic. The medical exams showed he had all the symptoms of appendicitis. When the doctors said they wanted to operate on him, we called all the Homes in our area and asked them to pray desperately for him. The operation was delayed because the doctor wasn't there at the time, and miraculously Miguel started feeling better! But then when everything was ready for surgery, he had to really beg and plead with them not to do it. One of the doctors there is Miguel's wife's brother, and he has known us for several years, so he convinced them to just cancel the operation and put Miguel under observation instead. The next exams showed that everything was normal--the Lord had done a miracle!

From Maria H., Brazil:
I had a serious breast infection, and after a series of exams the doctor told me that I needed to be operated on right away. The doctor was a friend of ours, so I told him that I needed to pray, and that I had the faith the Lord could heal me. He laughed and said he wanted to see my faith. A week later I went back for a checkup and he was astonished to see that there wasn't even a shadow of the infection. He was even more shocked when I told him that I hadn't taken the antibiotics that he had prescribed, as I had decided to trust the Lord completely!

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE LONG-TERM PRAYER LIST
As a reminder, we thought it might be helpful to include a brief summary of the main topics covered in the last long-term list (PL 25). Hopefully this will come in handy to jog your memory in praying for these topics in case you're having prayer time and PL 25 is not available. If you wish, you can even copy down this list of topics to carry with you so you can pray for them in situations when you can't have the Prayer List with you, such as when out in town or taking public
transport, etc. However, this is not meant as a substitute for PL 25, so please do try to refer to PL 25 for the specifics of each request whenever possible.
In order to make sure that the prayer requests from the long-term list are not forgotten, you may want to try praying for at least two requests from the long-term list every day, along with some of the requests from this Prayer List and your Continental Prayer List. This way, your Home would be praying for all the long-term requests regularly. Thank you for your faithful prayers! God bless you!
