PRAYER LIST 24
DO April 1995

(c) April 1995, Home Services, Zurich, Switzerland

"And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry; and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small" (Jer.30:19).

(Please use this list with PL 20, the latest long-term list. Thank you!)

For 14 years and up. Although JETTs are not permitted to read the Prayer Lists on their
own, you may read it with them during Word time, or share prayer requests with them when having prayer vigil. Selected prayer requests, answers to prayer and testimonies of answered prayer may be read to younger age groups as well, at your discretion. Please be prayerful and use wisdom in what you share with JETTs or children. Be sure to present prayer requests in a positive spirit, explain things and answer any questions they may have.

We'd like to start off this Prayer List with an encouraging promise: "Stay close to Him and He'll never fail you. He'll never forsake you. He'll never let you down. Even though He may not always answer just the way we'd like, keep trusting Him and He'll never fail!" (ML#325:15). Thank you for your faithful and continued prayers for all those whose requests are included in these Prayer Lists. It means putting forth an effort and sacrificing some of your time, but as those who have been on the receiving end of these prayers testify, our prayers can truly transform lives and work miracles--not to speak of the spiritual benefits in our own lives as we spend time in His temple. So keep praying! "He can solve all your problems in one little glimpse! He can clarify all your thoughts with just one sweet strain of heavenly music! And He can wipe away all your fears and tears with just one little restful moment in the peace, that perfect peace He gives when your mind is stayed on Him and Him alone because you trust in Him. It just takes one little glimpse of Jesus to make it worth it all! Praise God? And to help you to be able to do it all. Is it worth the time it takes in the temple? Take time in the temple" (ML#191:30,31).

ANSWERED PRAYERS

(Some of the answered prayers listed below were not mentioned as prayer requests in past Prayer Lists, but were prayed for locally. We've included them here for your encouragement, and to glorify the Lord for His marvelous faithfulness in answering prayer!)

Worldwide:
         1. The Lord did a miracle in making it possible for the Family to receive the
Love Charter as well as Dad's Songs of Heaven video in time for the Family Birthday celebration! God bless our dear translators, who had to do double-duty to get this 200-plus page pub translated in a very short amount of time, and the NPCs who did a wonderful job of printing, binding and getting it to the Homes before February 15th. Praise the Lord!
         2. A
book about the Family (PL 23:72), compiled from studies by a number of leading academics and social scientists worldwide, and edited by Jim Lewis and Gordon Melton, has been printed and is now being distributed! Under the title, Sex, Slander and Salvation, this book is a detailed, up-to-date and objective account and analysis of the Family's beliefs and practices by respected professionals who understand us and have spent time in our Homes studying and interviewing many members. It should prove very effective in countering the anti-cult movement's lies and their so-called "studies" by people who don't even know us and have never even been in one of our Homes. (See FUN 29.)
         3.
Video productions: (From the IVM:) "The Lord has continued to answer all our prayers and supply everything needed for the Endtime music video production, including costumes, locations, sets and vehicles for scenes about Armageddon, the Abomination of Desolation, AC headquarters, etc. At the same time the Lord has blessed our efforts to spiritually minister to those who are helping us with the project, following up on them and bringing many of them to know the Lord personally. Also, the Lord has been helping us find quicker, more efficient and yet Spirit-filled ways to speed up our video production process. Praise the Lord!"

He can also get up again without aid or support when he falls, which is a real miracle. (He used to have to crawl over to a wall every time he fell down, in order to get back up.)
         16.
Paloma (PL 23:93): Safe delivery without complications. The baby's heartbeat (which had been irregular) became completely normal as soon as the prayer request for her was sent out!

         28.
Legal victory in Brazil! (PL 23:102 and FUN 28): A court of appeals has ruled in the Family's favor, putting to rest a long-running court case involving one of our Homes in Brazil! A lower court had previously issued a verdict demanding the enrollment of the Home's children in public school, with the prosecution even recommending that the children be institutionalized. However, the court of appeals came out strongly on the Home's behalf, defended the Home's right to home school their children, and overruled the verdict of the lower court. This is a tremendous victory for the Family in Brazil, and sets a favorable legal precedent for the acceptance of home schooling in Brazil. Praise the Lord!
         29. A
peace agreement has been signed by the governments of Peru and Ecuador (FUN 28), putting a stop to the recent skirmishes on their common border. The situation continues to be delicate, so please keep praying.
         30. Many
needed missionary visas have come though. (PL 22:105)

Europe:
         31.
Carmela (22) (PL 22:151): (From Carmela:) "The Lord did a miracle! For months leading up to Christmas I had been praying that I would be able to do some witnessing at Christmas time, as I had not been able to do any outreach for over two years due to my back problem resulting from a serious injury. Thank the Lord, He miraculously healed my back so that I was able to go singing just about every day this past Christmas season. It is truly an answer to everyone's prayers! Thank you for praying for me, I love each of you!" Please continue to keep Carmela's healing in your prayers, as she still experiences quite a lot of pain from time to time.

PRAYER REQUESTS

CRITICAL OR LIFE-&-DEATH SITUATIONS:
         35.
Noelle (2 months, of Stevie and Ruthie), Asia: Diagnosed with multiple cysts inside jaw and mouth. It is difficult for her to breathe and drink, and she is now back to her birth weight of 2.4 kilos. For healing of cysts, weight gain, and that she will not catch a cold or any other sickness which could seriously compound the problem. For her parents' wisdom in any medical decisions they make.
         36.
Nathan (TS, of Sarai), North America: Life-threatening lung disease. That his breathing will improve immediately without the aid of additional oxygen on a permanent basis.
         37.
Hope Gepetto (TS) (FUN 28), North America: About six months ago, Hope underwent surgery to remove a large malignant tumor from her brain. That operation was successful, thank the Lord, and Hope came through it miraculously well! However, recent tests show that the cancer has grown and Hope is again in critical condition. Hope isn't experiencing any pain, but is having trouble being clear in her speech, which is frustrating for her. Please pray for a miraculous deliverance, and for her doctors' wisdom in any further medical care they suggest; for needed strength and faith for Hope and her family.
         38.
Liz Grey (69) (PL 23:46), Asia: Cervical cancer. Against pain that Liz has been experiencing lately. For Liz's strength, as she is often confined to bed; that she will be able to sleep at night, as well as eat and digest her food, as her bowels seem to be affected by the cancer.
         39.
Thai Abe (PL 23:45), Asia: Continued healing of brain tumor. Abe had a miraculous recovery last year, but recently his physical condition has deteriorated considerably, and the tumor has grown back, causing a loss of some body functions. That the Lord will heal and deliver Abe from his pain and suffering, as well as encourage him and strengthen his faith during this difficult time. For Abe and his Home's faith and wisdom in deciding on how to provide Abe with the special care he needs.
         40.
Heidi (of Peter) (PL 23:40), Australia: Advanced case of cancer of the cervix. For miraculous deliverance and healing, specifically against the recent pains in her chest; that the Lord will honor Heidi's decision not to go ahead with further treatments but to trust Him for miraculous healing instead.

Swiss Phoebe (PL 23:41), Europe: Continued fight against Hodgkin's Disease.
         42.

Mama and WS Leadership
         43.
For Mama and her teamwork's continued strength and wisdom. For the Lord's continued anointing as Mama shoulders the responsibility of leading the Family and passing on the Lord's leading and counsel to the Family.
         44.
Mama is asking for your prayers "to be more prayerful, to hear more clearly from the Lord, and to love Him and others more deeply, and to know how to help others to do the same."
         45.
For Mama's resistance to colds and headaches, which she is very susceptible to and which weaken her considerably. Also for healing of vaginal and uterine cysts.
         46.
Peter: Against a recurring pain in his neck, resulting in headaches which hinder his sleep at night. For general strength and resistance to sickness. (See testimony on page 14.)
         47.
Mama's staff: Healing of a long-standing back problem for one staff member, and against migraine headaches for another. Both have been improving remarkably since you, our dear Family, have prayed for them; the back problem is less severe, and the headaches less frequent. Thank you for faithfully fighting with them.

WORLDWIDE
         48. For the
implementation of the Love Charter:
That the Charter will be implemented in decency and order, with each of us showing a great measure of love one for another. That it will bear the fruit in the Family that the Lord wants it to, and result in greater happiness and fulfillment for each Family member, as well as more fruitfulness and witnessing for the Family as a whole.
That the Lord will help each of us to learn to look to Him more in prayer for His guidance in our lives and our Homes. That He will strengthen our faith muscles as each member learns to step out "on our own" more without such a heavy dependency on leadership in making decisions.
That everyone will have the time to thoroughly study and get a good understanding of the Charter, and especially grasp the loving and unselfish spirit with which the Lord wants it put into effect.
For great wisdom, love and good communication as many large Homes discuss and plan personnel moves and scale down operations. That any moves will be done prayerfully and according to the Lord's will and plan, and that our finances, outreach and ministry to our friends, contacts and the needy will not suffer during this time.
For the Lord's blessing upon those who will be pioneering new Homes, cities or countries; for fruitful ministries and bountiful supply, particularly for good housing, travel funds, set-up costs, good visas where needed, etc.
That all of our faithful area shepherds, who have relinquished their positions in light of the Charter, will find fruitful ministries and strategic places of service; that they will adjust to these changes well and continue to be a great blessing to the Family.

Parents and Children
         49. For the
establishment of Family and Education Departments in each CRO area: That the Lord will raise up the right personnel for the job, supply their needs, and make them a great blessing in providing childcare, family and educational assistance to the Homes in their area.
         50. For unity, wisdom and the Lord's leading as our Homes seek Him for His answers on how to organize their time, schedules and personnel so as to be able to
give our children the training that they need in the four major areas of their education: Word, witnessing, scholastics and vocational training.
         51.
For our teens who have left the Family: That the Lord will be with and provide for them; that we can continue to show them the Lord's and our love for them, and that they will use the good training they've received in the Family to continue witnessing and being a sample of the Lord's love to those they come in contact with. That the Lord will bring back those whom He wants in His full-time service; easy adjustment and good spiritual progress for those who are returning, that we can give them the love, care and help they need.
         52.
That TSers needing to enroll their children in outside schools will find good Christian schools for them. For the Lord's wisdom and guidance in the education of their children, and that they can continue to give them good godly training at home to counter any negative influences from outside schooling.

WS Pubs and Tools
         53. For our
publications units, who, in addition to producing many pubs for the DO Family, will be placing a renewed emphasis on trying to get out more publications for the GP. These include a new series of follow-up booklets (Living Waters, a revised version of the Daily Foods), more Mountain Streams, and God willing, one or more books for the GP. For the Lord's anointing, wisdom, and good progress on these important projects.
         54. For the
soon completion of the Christian Vocational College (CVC) program, a massive educational pubs project that will be a great boost to our teens' schooling and vocational training.
         55.      That a
childcare book being worked on by Family Care will be finalized soon. It contains a wealth of needed childcare counsel, especially for smaller Homes.

         61.
Paula (Faithy's) work on writing her book about her life with Dad. That it will be an inspiration to the Family as well as a powerful tool to rebut the Enemy's lies in Deborah's and other books. For the spiritual and physical strength Paula needs to complete this project.
         62.
IVM: For equipment, materials and finances to be able to produce as much as possible this year. For good long-term visas for the personnel involved in video/audio productions.

Outreach and Follow-up
         63. For
fruitful follow-up of new contacts and friends met during the Christmas push.
         64. For follow-up on the
open doors and people met at the recent U.N. World Conference for Social Development in Copenhagen, Denmark. That the offers of help and support made by influential people at the conference will materialize, and that the Lord will use these contacts to open doors for the Family's ministries in various countries worldwide.
         65. That throughout this year, the Lord will help us
to fulfill Mama's Christmas message, and Dad and the Lord's commission to us all--adults and young people alike--to witness and pour out like never before, reaching the needy with the gospel and filling their hearts with God's love.
         66. Continued progress in
providing our teens and JETTs with fulfilling and exciting witnessing opportunities and ministries. That our young people will be excited and inspired about witnessing, with an increased love for the lost, and will make good progress in their witnessing training. That our adults will set a good example in this area.
         67. That
each of our Homes will be able to establish solid, fruitful and long-lasting ministries in their cities, such as "consider the poor" ministries, well-organized follow-up ministries, youth outreach, etc. For the faith and patience to stick to the outreach ministries to which they feel called or which the Lord has opened up for them.
         68. For
increased tool distribution, both to get out the message via the wonderful tools the Lord has provided, as well as bring in needed increased support; that our tool outreach will open doors to meet new contacts, friends and supporters who can be followed up on and brought closer to the Lord and the Family. For open doors to get out tools in larger quantities, such as via sponsorships, direct marketing, etc.

Shepherding and Home Affairs
         69. For
more love in our Homes--love for the Lord, love for one another, love for the lost. That we will all "bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Gal.6:2).
         70.
Finances: For stable finances during this time of change due to the Charter. Great unity, vision, faith, initiative and perseverance to implement the counsel on fund raising in Mama's Letter "From Poverty to Plenty" (GN 598) and the "Finances and Fund Raising" FSM series.
         71.
Seed corn stocks: That each of our Homes will be able to build on the seed corn stock that WS has provided them with, and wisely manage their tools fund to get ahead financially and maintain substantial stocks on hand at all times.
         72. That the Lord will make a way for any
Family members who are or will be eligible for compulsory military service to avoid having to serve in the army, unless it is indeed His will. Against armed conflicts that would put our Family members at risk of being called into active duty.

Persecution and Media
         73. That the
new book about the Family, Sex, Slander and Salvation, will be widely sold and have a major positive effect on those who read it. (See answered prayer #2.) In particular, that it will be read by academics, professionals and government agencies worldwide, as well as be used in university courses and seminars about the Family. Also for Gordon Melton, who is working on another book on the Family, which could hopefully have an even more widespread distribution and be translated into a number of major languages.

Court Cases
         74.
England:
For a positive, righteous verdict in favor of Pearl, allowing Sammy to remain with her. From what we've heard, the judge is still working on the verdict, and we have not received word as to when it might be released. That the judge will be receptive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and have the conviction to give a fair and just verdict based on the facts and not on the fabrications and distortions of our detractors. That he will be persuaded that the Family is a safe place to raise a child, and allow Sammy to stay with Pearl in the Family.

         75.
Argentina:
That the
appeal lodged by the district attorney (in collaboration with Marquevich and other opponents) will be rejected by the Supreme Court. That the favorable ruling by the court of appeals exonerating the Family will be upheld and the whole case against us will be laid to rest.
For
a report by the Attorney General to the Supreme Court on our case to be favorable, as this report could determine whether or not the appeal by the district attorney against us is even reviewed by the Supreme Court.
That the
parliamentary hearing which is investigating Marquevich's actions will result in his impeachment.
For our
close friends, lawyers and contacts who have stood with us through this persecution. That we can continue to minister to and feed them.
For
our main lawyer, who has helped us win our case and is presently working hard at pushing our civil suits through the courts.

         76.
France:
For the
criminal case to be completely closed.
For the Lord's anointing on the
Family adults who will soon be interviewed by the judge responsible for the criminal case.
That our official request for an
investigation into abuse by government agents during their raid of the Home in Lyon will be granted.
Our lawyers: Conviction, perseverance, anointing and good communication with us.
Continued supply of
funds needed for our defense.

         77.
Australia:
Our
civil suits against social services (DOCS) in Sydney: For a speedy settlement in our favor; for our lawyers' faith, strength, wisdom and health. That their legal presentation of the facts and injustices committed by the police and DOCS will be powerful and well-prepared.
That a
proposal to the New South Wales Parliament requesting an official inquiry into the raids on the Homes two years ago will have the desired effect and result in such an inquiry being initiated.
For the Lord to continue to guide our
Family in Sydney, Australia, as they provide information to the state government department that oversees local charities. Apparently a recently passed law now makes it extremely difficult for non-registered associations to raise funds. For the Lord's anointing on our lawyers as they research this problem for us, and that the Lord will open up doors for support and tool distribution, so the local Family can continue to operate and be a witness there.

ASIA
         78. That the
benefit concerts which the Family performed in India will result in many open doors to further reach India with the gospel, and for the follow-up of new contacts met as a result of these concerts.

         80.

         110. That the
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation will allow the Family equal prime time to rebut the BBC Smithson anti-Family documentary that was aired nationwide.
         111. That a
documentary on NRMs being prepared by MTV will be objective; and that our detractors' attempts to use the show as a platform for their lies will be foiled. Wisdom for those dealing with MTV on this matter.
         112.
That little or no bad publicity will result from a newly published book about River Phoenix's death in which the COG/Family is portrayed negatively. That our media spokesperson's recent contact with the book's author will bear good fruit, and that the Lord will use River's death to draw his family closer to Him.
         113.
Against attempts by the ACM to spread lies about the Family in Mexico. One ACM author, Jorge Ederly, has been holding meetings throughout Mexico in an attempt to smear the Family and other new religious movements. (See FUN 29.) For the Lord's anointing on our Mexican media team as they counteract, refute the lies and get out the truth! That the ACM's attacks against us will not result in any serious problems for the Homes in Mexico.
         114. For good
follow-up of new contacts made at a human rights conference in Central America which the Family recently attended.

LESSONS AND TESTIMONIES OF ANSWERED PRAYER!

From Peter Amsterdam:
(Editor's note: Following is a message sent to the CROs by Peter thanking them for their prayers after the Lord healed him of two days of very serious and painful heart problems and a number of other afflictions.)
Dear precious CROs,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your desperate prayers for me during these afflictions that came on so suddenly. The Lord has been mightily using the afflictions, for "before I was afflicted I went astray, but now have I kept Thy Word." When I returned home from the Summit, I was faced with some jealousy battles, during which Mama asked a WS Home to pray for me. Within the prophecies that they received the Lord said, "And this death, this end of thine own self, the end of thy power, the end of thy resources, the end of thy strength, the end of thy toughness, the end of thy fighting, the end of all that is within thine own power--how it hurts and pains for a moment, but it is raised in incorruption, as My power and anointing descends upon thee."
This is exactly what the Lord is doing through all that I have experienced since being home--first having to fight jealousy battles, and then these major afflictions. But the prayers of those here and your prayers have helped to pull me through, thank the Lord, and are bringing me greater victories day by day.
My cough is completely gone. The dizziness that I was experiencing is gone. The severe heart problems are no longer there, just some mild heart pains once in awhile, which is a good reminder to me to go slow. It seems that whatever the problem was with some internal organ in my back that was quite painful has gotten somewhat better, but still hurts sometimes, as does the skin on my chest that is so tender to the touch much of the time, almost like it's been burned.
I continue to have a pain in my neck which results in headaches at some time throughout most days and often in the night, which wakes me up. So if you could continue to pray for these matters I'd greatly appreciate it.
Rather than looking at all of these afflictions as a big burden, or a defeat, they are in fact a great victory because they bring about the two things that I need the most, humbling and weakness. I've always been quite strong and healthy and very proud, and the Lord is trying to rewire me through this to be humble and weak, and I love it! So please do pray for my healing, but most of all pray that the Lord will humble me and make me weak so that He can work through me, and that any strength that I have will be only His strength and not my own. He's using these afflictions to remake me and it's wonderful!--And the great news is it's working! Praise the Lord!
Being weak is wonderful! Thank the Lord! And I need to get used to it. As the Lord said in one prophecy, "The days of your strength, the days of your power, the days of your toughness, the days of your might are gone. Ye shall never see them again, for I cannot use you as I wish when you have those weaknesses. Now you have the strength of weakness, the strength of disability, the strength of tenderness, the strength of mercy and the strength of love, and I will give unto you the strength of prayer. So don't think it is going to be the way it was, that you're going to be able to accomplish a lot and that therefore others will not be needed. For I have taken this away from you and have wiped that slate clean, it is no more." Praise the Lord! Isn't that wonderful?
Please do continue to pray for the work the Lord is trying to do in my life. I really love you and appreciate you and depend on you and your prayers. God bless and keep you!
         Love, Peter

From Meek, South America:
(Editor's note: Meek's healing testimony was published in PL 22, pages 18-20, along with Mama's comments. At the time, Mama also suggested to Meek that she try getting another scan of her back done in order to confirm that she was healed--not so much for her or the Family's sake, but to use as a witness to others of the Lord's healing power. Following is the response we received:)
(From Meek's shepherds: Since receiving your note, Meek got a second scan of her back, which showed that the hernia in her vertebrae has almost totally disappeared! The doctor who compared her latest scan with the one she had done before she was healed said that in his years of practicing medicine, he'd never seen a lesion of that size heal itself without surgery or any medical treatment, only prayer. He told Meek to take the two scans to show to all the doctors who examined her during the course of her spinal problem, as a witness and testimony to them!)

Dear Mama,
Words could never even begin to express how I was touched by the love and concern you showed for me, as you commented on my testimony (of how the Lord healed me of a large hernia in a vertebrae on the spinal column in my neck). You are such a convicting sample of the verse, "that ye may comfort others with the comfort wherewith you have been comforted" (2Cor.1:4). I believe that you are one person who can understand when I try to describe the wonderful sense of well-being I have when I know that someone else really comprehends how I feel and what I've been through. Ultimately, that gives me the security that Jesus also truly does comprehend everything I go through.
I could sense the Lord healing me slowly but surely, but without that second scan, it was still "by faith" to a certain extent. It is such a relief to have that "physical proof" in my hand that the Lord has completely healed me. Please pray for me, that now that I have such obvious, scientific "proof," that I can use it in a powerful way to show others God's power to heal.
Dear Mama, you will always have my eternal love and gratitude.
         Your daughter,
         Meek

From Mateo and Brunhilde, South America:
Our daughter, Maria Clara, is now three years old. It's been three years of miracles, as the Lord has worked in her life in so many ways. Maria Clara was born with an "incurable" congenital (pre-birth) disease which attacks the central nervous system and brings on paralysis, resulting in serious problems with the urinary, intestinal and motor systems.
At her birth, the diagnosis was very discouraging and frightening, but thank the Lord, He has healed her of the urinary infections which had put her kidneys at serious risk! Another miracle is that her body has accepted the valve which she had to have implanted as a baby, and it works perfectly well. Her kidneys have miraculously developed properly, her intestines and her digestion have improved considerably, and her immune system was strengthened as a result of having to confront three childhood diseases in one year.
She has now also regained some sensation in her legs, and although they are still affected by paralysis, she continues to progress and can now move her hip and legs a little! Physically she is still very handicapped--she can't stand up or walk, or urinate without a tube--but she is a happy, intelligent and emotionally normal child; she loves the Lord, and has faith that the Lord is going to heal her. She always says, "Jesus is going to heal me, and I'm going to walk and dance." God bless her!
She's had a witnessing ministry amongst the doctors and parents of other sick children. Everyone knows her, and she shines for Jesus, radiating her happiness and faith. Please continue to pray that the Lord will honor her childlike faith and do the miracle of totally healing her hip and legs so she can walk. Thank you! We love you!

From Ruth (of Paul), North America:
After going for a check-up due to internal pains, an ultrasound revealed I had a cyst the size of an orange. It was so painful I almost went into emergency care, but decided to trust God instead. Instantly I felt a peace come over me. I decided to stand up, and as I did so, all the pain was gone! A later ultrasound showed the cyst to be smaller, just the size of a golf ball! Thank You Jesus!

From Sunshine (of Sammy), North America:
I started to spot from the start of my pregnancy. As the weeks went by, I became weaker. At four months I was diagnosed as having placenta previa, and told that if I didn't get immediate bed-rest, I would lose the baby.
I also started having problems with hypoglycemia (lack of sugar in the blood). My body was so weak that at times I couldn't even sit up in bed because the bleeding would start, which would lead to a complete loss of energy, loss of appetite and nausea. The doctor warned that if I was "in luck" and didn't have a cesarean, then for sure I would need anesthesia in case I fainted from a lack of blood sugar and energy. My shepherds sent in a prayer request for me which was published in the Prayer List (21:135), and as a result of your prayers, the Lord did a miracle! My delivery was not only the fastest yet, but Sandra Noemi came out with only one push, to the delight and surprise of the sweet doctor and nurses!
Not only did the Lord do a miracle physically, but the clinic I went to has one of the highest standards in the area. They allowed me to have my baby with me all the time, gave me good meals and the best room, all for an almost 70% discount! The sweet doctor who attended me also got saved! I had the baby at 5:45 a.m. and was home that evening, praise God!
We are so blessed to have miracle after miracle happen, and we definitely need to give the credit to where credit is due, and that is to the Lord. But if nobody had prayed, the Lord wouldn't have been able to make the way so smooth, so I'd like to thank each person who prayed for me.

From Esther, North America:
My request for healing was not sent in to the worldwide Prayer List, but I would like to testify of the Lord's speedy healing in answer to the prayers of those in our city, which I hope will encourage others' faith for healing too!
I recently came down with a kidney infection. It quickly progressed and soon I was bedridden. My insides throbbed painfully. It was very difficult to eat or sleep. I began to face the age-old battle between going to the doctor or taking the stand of faith alone and trusting the Lord without the antibiotics. "Power and Protection" testimonies began strengthening my faith, and I also eagerly read the recent Prayer Lists, bringing before the Lord the petitions of our precious brethren around the world. It made me feel close to you all, and the fact that I, too, was sick helped me empathize with you and more fervently battle in prayer for you.
The two Homes in our city were praying for me, which was such an encouragement. Someone would come to me and say, "I prayed for you when I woke up in the night." Another would say, "We're all praying for you!" I felt so much love.
After three days, the pain was still very intense, and I was worn out from lack of food and sleep. I decided to go to a doctor for some antibiotics to help the healing process. Someone provisioned a doctor and off I went "to get relief." After a long wait the doctor finally examined me and confirmed that both of my kidneys were infected. "Just wait for the lab test results so I can prescribe antibiotics," she said. A few minutes later they told me the lab tests showed my urine to be completely clear, with no sign of infection whatsoever! They told me no antibiotics were needed!
At home I got out the "Power for Healing" mag, and I noticed one of the testimonies was about a woman who was healed instantly, but it took two years for the symptoms to disappear. Actually the throbbing pain did seem to have diminished, but I hadn't noticed because I was so tired and weak from not eating or sleeping. I reread the testimony several times and realized the Lord had already answered my and the local Family's prayers. I was healed--I just hadn't noticed it yet!
Sure enough, that night the symptoms vanished and I was able to sleep well for the first time in a week. The next day I continued to regain strength, and even though my faith wavered a bit when my back started to hurt, the Lord strengthened me and by nightfall I was completely better. The next day I was back to normal! This experience was such a manifestation of the Lord's love! He showed me that He doesn't expect us to be spiritual giants with perfect faith. He loves us despite ourselves. I was also very touched to see how everyone was really praying for me and so sweetly taking on my jobs in the Home along with their own while I was sick. God bless them!

From Katrina (9, of Lily), Asia:
I have had problems with ingrown toenails for a long time, almost four years. For most of that time I couldn't wear shoes. It was very painful, and at times I couldn't run during get-out because of it. I had this problem for so long that I was very discouraged about it and thought I would
never get healed. Mommy and my teachers would pray for me and it would get a little better, but it was still there. So Mommy sent a prayer request for me to the Prayer List (22:188). Even though I didn't realize it, the Lord started working right away.
Not long afterwards, one night I was very discouraged, so Mommy asked me to pray and ask the Lord if there was something I needed to do to get healed. My friend Anna and I prayed for my toes and asked the Lord to show me why He wasn't healing me. The very next day, Anna and I were reading "Charity and Charm" and found the place where it talks about fingernails and toenails and it said to put cotton and vitamin E oil on ingrown toenails. So I tried it that night and it started getting better. And now, two months later, my toes are completely healed--for the first time in four years! I am so thankful that everyone took the time to pray for me and that the Lord answered their prayers, led me to the right counsel and healed me.

From Faithy Singaporean, Asia:
I've had a problem with eczema since I was one year old. All my life, I would get eczema outbreaks every so often. In spite of many medical treatments, tests and even a blood transfusion, the problem persisted. It also made me allergic to different foods, and ugly scars remained after serious outbreaks, which as a teen made me quite embarrassed and self-conscious of my looks. I've also had rather serious bouts of stomach ulcers that would bleed and make eating pretty difficult.
Both of these afflictions continued during my years in the Family, but since my prayer request was published in the Prayer List (15:83), the Lord has healed me of both the eczema and the ulcers! It's been a spiritual healing as well, as the Lord brought some of my major battles to the surface with these afflictions, which He also helped me to overcome! The Lord did miracles in my life and just
gave me the victory as I soaked myself in the Word. The more I read, the more the Lord gave me faith that I could be healed! I want to thank everyone for exercising their faith for me as well! Thank the Lord!

Afflictions bring greater dependency on the Lord!
From Marie Claire (23), Pacific (see prayer request #190):
(Excerpts from a letter to her shepherds:)
I wanted to thank you for the beautiful quotes that you sent me. They were so encouraging and came at a time when I really needed comfort and encouragement. I can't tell you how much it meant to me to know that you love me and have been praying for me.
Through my affliction and weakened state, the Lord has been showing me a lot of areas in my life that I need to improve in. One of the main things that I've realized recently is the importance of resting in the Lord and making time for Him. I guess it goes along with what you got from the Lord for me in the prophecies that you sent me. I know that I am so much more of a "Martha" than a "Mary," to the point where I feel guilty if I'm not feverishly hurrying around, fretting and stressful! Many times, while reading the Word, I catch myself starting to feel guilty for not working or accomplishing things during that time. I guess there's just so much to do and I wish I could do more to change things or remedy problem situations. But the Word says, "Take time to hear from the Lord and He'll take the time to straighten out the problems." I need to just trust the Lord more to solve the problems Himself.
I had often read the verse, "one thing is needful" (Luke 10:42), but the other day while reading Grandmother's
Meditation Moments on that subject, that verse spoke to me in a different way. I had always put the emphasis on the word "needful." However, this time the words that stood out to me were "one thing." I saw for the first time, I think, that although the other things are good and important, only this one thing--to sit at Jesus' feet and learn of Him--is actually needful. It's a basic lesson, but it's taken this affliction to help me fully understand it.
I feel bad because I know that I've passed this same stressful spirit on to the teens I'm responsible for, and now I can see so much of my own problem with this reflected in their lives. I remember so often telling them to "press in" and not just sit there "doing nothing," trying to get them to fill every space. Of course, sometimes they do need to be reminded to not laze around and waste time, but I think I've gone to the extreme in some cases by conveying the message that they're not accomplishing anything unless they're hurrying around. I recently started to read more Word along these lines myself, and am in turn sharing what I read with the teens. I've also apologized for my sample and shared some of what the Lord is teaching me through my afflictions. I pray they can learn from my poor example and by what I am going through now, so that they won't have to learn the hard way, like I'm having to.
I was able to take some time off to just rest and read the Word and pray about whether I should take the chemotherapy. God bless everyone who made this break possible and were so sweet and encouraging during this time. One thing that the Lord showed me specifically was that in order to be healed I would need to do my part and obey what the Lord has showed me to do. I got the verse, "If thou wilt diligently hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon you. For I am the Lord that healeth thee" (Ex.15:26). And the main thing that the Lord has shown me to do, both through prophecy and in what He's teaching me daily, is to put Him first and to rest in Him--to make time for Him, and make that time first and foremost in my life.
I feel that the Lord has put me in a situation where I have to learn this lesson, as my life depends on it. So, although it's a trial and a constant battle knowing that I could get cancer, and I'm weak and unhealthy, I'm glad that the Lord loves me enough to deal with me this way in order to teach me these precious lessons that I doubt I'd be able to learn any other way.
During this time of prayer, the Lord showed me not to take the chemotherapy, but to just obey and do my part and then He'll heal me. I know that if He wants to, the Lord can heal me without the medicine.--And if He wants me to get cancer (which I don't believe is the case), then His will be done.
One other thing that He showed me was the
need to fight and not just be passive about it. At one point through this ordeal, I was so down and into myself that I didn't care what happened to me. Each time I'd go into the hospital and the doctor would tell me that something serious was wrong with me, it would hardly faze me. I would just passively "accept" it. I guess I just accepted it as something that the Lord was doing to me that I had to go through, and there was nothing to be done about it.
Dear Steven [who was miraculously healed of cancerous tumors; see testimony in PL 22, page 20] sent me a compilation of quotes that he put together during his time of affliction. They were just what I needed! I think I had gotten into a bit of a "poor-me" spirit, and I needed a good kick in the pants to shake me out of my spiritual lethargy and to get my mind off of myself and my problems. The majority of the quotes were about fighting, not taking things like this laying down, claiming the Lord's healing, and doing my part, and then the Lord would heal. They really convicted me and gave me the strength to fight again. Like the Word says, "Faith cometh by hearing the Word." These quotes really strengthened my faith to believe that the Lord wants to heal me and that He
will if I do my part and obey.
         Much love, Marie Claire.
P.S.: I just went to the doctor today, and my hormone level has gone down! Praise the Lord! My hormone level had been very high, and this was what concerned the doctor. He thought this would lead to cancer if it continued, and he wanted me to take chemotherapy to bring the hormone level down. But the
Lord is doing it! We just need to pray that it keeps going down. Thanks again for your prayers!

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE LONG-TERM PRAYER LIST

As a reminder, we thought it might be helpful to include a brief summary of the main topics covered in the last long-term list (PL 20). Hopefully this will come in handy to jog your memory in praying for these topics in case you're having prayer vigil and PL 20 is not available. If you want, you could even copy down this list of topics to carry with you so you can pray for them in situations when you can't have the Prayer List with you, such as when out in town or taking public transport, etc. However, this is not meant as a
substitute for PL 20, so please do try to refer to PL 20 for the specifics of each request whenever possible.
In order to make sure that the prayer requests from the long-term list are not forgotten, you may want to try praying for at least two requests from the long-term list every day, along with some of the requests from this Prayer List and your Continental Prayer List. This way, your Home would be praying for all the long-term requests regularly. Thank you for your faithful prayers! God bless you!
