FAMILY NEWS UPDATE! #1 --April, 1993
TOKYO, Japan. Family News Network (FNN)-- The Family sent out a strong rebuttal to a new article that appeared in The Shukan Bunshun, the same magazine that attacked us last June and July. The traitorous Ed Priebe has continued to feed them lots of his garbage and lies. The Family did an excellent job of exposing Priebe for the crook that he is, using as evidence excerpts from his own logs, which he left in the Manila Home when he and Dan Welsh were arrested last October. Generally, the media and public have paid scant attention to these latest articles in the SB! PTL!
LOS ANGELES, U.S. (FNN)-- Things seem to be heating up in the U.S.! The Family reports that Christianity Today, a popular magazine amongst evangelical Christians, published our "Letter to the Editor", correcting some errors in an article they did on the Family last December. The article originated when criminal conspirators Priebe and Dan Welsh approached them boasting about the fiasco in Manila. However, the reporter contacted the Family, and we were able to give our side of the story, which they also printed, TTL! Our Letter to the Editor goes further, and reminds the readers that Priebe and Welsh are facing criminal charges in the Philippines.
Bithia, a longtime enemy of the Family and cohort of Deborah, showed up at the door of a Los Angeles Home with a French TV crew, wanting to do an on-the-spot interview! The Family declined and wisely stood their ground and explained that they don't do interviews unless the questions are submitted in advance. As it turns out, the reporters had to return to France before anything further could be arranged.
An article about the Family came out in the L.A. Times, in the weekend edition. While it gave our side of the story, it generally had a sceptical, cynical slant, and could be considered "politically correct". While researching & writing the article, the reporter had been barraged by many of our enemies, and the article reflected this. However, it did quote several of their supporters praising the Family and their Work there. It also refrained from repeating all the normal lies about cults. "He shall cause the wrath of Man to praise Him!" PTL! The Family delivered a strong rebuttal and Letter to the Editor. GBT!
Religious News Service, a wire service affiliated with The New York Times, which provides news articles to hundreds of Christian & secular media outlets nationwide, released three articles on the Family written by Joe Maxwell, the reporter who wrote last December's article in Christianity Today. The articles were generally very fair & factual, revolving around accusations made by Priebe and Welsh. Maxwell had talked extensively with Family Members, and published a lot of material that discredited Priebe and Welsh. These articles may be picked up by any number of newspapers or religious magazines in the U.S. or elsewhere.
BOMBAY, India (FNN)--The Family reports that all members are safe after the series of bombings that left hundreds dead in Bombay. Two hotels where they had previously held seminars were seriously damaged. PTL for His protection!
LONDON, England (FNN)-- A television documentary about the Family aired in London, an investigative-type program. The Family did very well, and the Home was a very good sample, TTL! There was some selective editing and sound effects, and ample airtime given to our detractors, but overall nothing was taken out of context, and lots of message got out! They broadcast clips of old out-of-circulation dance videos that had been stolen from the Family storage in Manila last October by Ed Priebe.
COPENHAGEN, Denmark, (FNN) Since the recent media coverage here, the Family says that everyone wants to know more about us!
PRAGUE, Czech Republic (FNN)--Recently the churches here have begun distributing a book against cults, which has a chapter dealing with the Family, containing information supplied by an antagonistic Brazilian backslider, Dalva Lynch.
ROSARIO, Argentina, (FNN)-- The brethren are still appealing the sentence there, finding that the judicial system is quite complicated and different from those in Europe or America.
Please continue to keep the Family worldwide in your prayers! "Prayer digs the channels from the reservoir of God's boundless resources to the tiny pools of our lives." (MOP 97:23)
