FJWL_01:441
I ask you a question: When you have felt love for others, but it was not returned in the same measure--the seed was planted but was not able to come to full blossom and full bloom--were you happy? I give it to you that you may receive it for a time, for the moment. If I wish to extend it, or I wish to prolong it, or I wish to end it, what is that to thee? It is better to have tasted of the love that I have given you than never to have tasted at all. It is better to have drunk one mouthful of the love that I have for you than not to have tasted at all and to die of thirst. For many lie parched and have not tasted of this love.
I have done this that your heart may be broken for others. You who have tasted know that I am good, and that love is good; that love is real, and that it exists. But so many have not tasted. They lie parched, with dry lips, shriveled tongues, longing, ever longing for the love that I've given you so freely!
I have called you to the harvest, and the harvest is in the hearts of men. I have sent you forth that you might have these experiences in your heart--not only the love, but the heartbreak, the brokenness. If you know these things, you will go forth with a broken heart, weeping, and you will doubtless return again, glorifying the Lord and bringing your sheaves with you.
